World’s Largest Crafts Fair- The Surajkund International Crafts Mela

That’s why Haryana is called one of the best places to visit India. Why? Because it is yet another rich pride of India. The 33rd Surajkund Crafts Mela 2019 is on the full swing towards its eve. The annual event is an effort towards accentuating the craftsmanship, handlooms and cultural diversity of India through the sophisticated display.

The festival or Mela is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority & Haryana Tourism with the partnership of Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. This year in 2019, the state of Maharashtra has been elected to be the Theme State.

The concept of The Theme State

Leveraging the Indian Tourism, the Theme state idea was brought with the vision to explore the art, craft, culture, cuisine of each state of India. Thus, it is yearly decided to choose one state that will be presented on the eve of the Surajkund Crafts Mela. Once the state is chosen, the furniture, setups, decoration, attire, and other related elements are turned into the thematic state.

The Purpose behind the initiative

The purpose to showcase the handicraft is to keep alive the traditional and classical culture of handloom and handicrafts. Such yearly contribution definitely brings the major change towards the choice of buying for customers. The effort is also to emit down the cheap machine-made fabrics and other artistic products.

The cultural expansion with regional plays

The present day can be witnessed with the huge performance from national and international folk artists and cultural groups at the Chaupals and open-air theatres. Within the span of the duration, every day can be seen with the new cultural presentation of different regional states and other international programmes.
