History of Alsisar
The Alsisar town is named after the famous fort “Alsisar Fort”. The history of Alsisar is one of the parts of the Shekhawati historical region. The Shekhawati region includes districts of Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Churu, and some parts of Nagaur & Jaipur. With the Alsisar fort, The Shekhawati also consists of several other forts like Sikar Fort, Churu Fort, Nawalgarh Fort, Mandawa Fort. In 1757, the Alsisar Fort was built by Alsisar Thakur Samarth Singh who was the son of Thakur Pahad Singh of Heerwa and great-grandson of Raja Shardul Singh of Jhunjhunu.
The fort was attacked by the Shekhawati Brigade which was led by Colonel Forrester of the British East India Company Army. In 1954, the fort was rebuilt. Though, it was not in good condition. Again, the restoration began in the year 2000 and was completed in 2006. Then, it is turned into a heritage hotel and is managed by Thakur Gaj Singh who is the 8th generation of the Thakur clan. It is locally known as “Alsisar Thikana”.
