History of Kausani
Although Kausani doesn’t have any prominent historical background, it does have a few remnants of historical events attached to it. Yes, two major historical events can be traced back to this beautiful land. Firstly, one of the most famous Indian poets - Sumitranandan Pant was born here in 1900.
Secondly, Mahatma Gandhi had stayed in Kausani for a period of 12 days for completing his work on Anashakti Yoga. It was during this time that he referred to this place as the Switzerland of India.
There was a time when Kausani went by the name Valna. Back then, it was a part of the kingdom ruled by Katyuri dynasty with Kartikeyapura as its capital. The geographical boundaries of this dynasty extended from Afghanistan to Nepal in the east. By the 12th century, these boundaries had been split into several divisions.
It is said that a branch of the Katyuri kings also set up the Rajbar Dynasty that had ruled here until it was made a part of the British Raj, post, signing the Sighaulli Treaty in 1816. Even today, one can witness the ruins of the ancient kingdom that are scattered all around Kausani.

The Rudhradhari falls are situated at an approximate distance of around 12 km from Kausani. This place is engulfed by the paddy fields and green pine forests which look quite amazing to the eyes. 2. Gwaldam
