Nurpur is a historical fort that acquired its name in 1672, when Jahangir, the famous Mughal Emperor named it after his wife Noor Jahan. Overlooking the Jabar Khud which is a tributary of Chakki rivulet, this fort comes across as one of the most beautiful tourist places in Himachal Pradesh.
Talking about this city, before 1947, it was considered a princely state and was ruled by the Pathania clan of Rajputs. It is said that this Pathania Clan had ruled for more than eight centuries in the same region.

Interestingly, it is believed that in the exact place where the statue of Nagni Devi is placed, water gathers from beneath the ground in some mysterious way.
