History of Renuka Lake
Renuka lake is situated 670 meters above sea level. Locals claim that the lake is named after the mother of Lord Parshuram who was the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. As per a popular local legend, once a devil named Sahasarjuna defeated and killed Jamadagini, Renuka’s husband. After killing Renuka’s husband, the devil tried to abduct her and in order to escape from him, Renuka jumped into the lake which is how the lake got its name.

Chandigarh International Airport is the nearest airport to Renuka Lake. The airport is nearly 130km away from the lake, and this distance can be covered in approximately 3 and a half hours by any mode of local transport such as a taxi or a bus.
By Rail
The nearest railway stations to Renuka lake are Chandigarh railway station and Kalka railway station. Chandigarh station is approx. 120km while Kalka station is 130km away from the lake. Both the stations provide frequent train services from all parts of the county and metro cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Patna, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.
By Road
