The town has many legends associated with it, however, none of these stories are backed with enough evidence. One famous legend that relates to its iconic Kuleshwar temple says that a few lotus leaves originating from Lord Vishnu’s navel fell on the Earth during the creation of the universe. These places became Padma-kshetras or Kamal-kshetras. Kuleshwar Temple in Rajim became the centrepiece of these holy places that is surrounded by 5 famous Shiva Lingas that were erected to mark the boundary.
Rajim was initially known as Bindranawagarh Tehsil. During the British Era, Gariaband was a part of Mahasamund Tehsil. In order to enable the region with accessibility, it was split into four Sub-Tehsils namely Fingeshwar, Chhura, Deobhog, and Manipur. According to the locals, the region was ruled by Tribal Kings and some landowners previously.
Also, Rajim is located on the famous pilgrimage route that leads to Jagannath temple in Puri.
