Karnataka is one of the best places to visit in India and that is because it consists of an array of attractions. Right from exotic places to historical monuments to cultural events and festivals. One such exciting festival called Kambala Festival is Karnataka’s pride festival that shows the spirit of farmers. The festival remarks as one of the harvest festivals which is organized during November-March every year.
Exploring Indian tourism, the Kambala Festival is basically a buffalo race that is performed by farmers with their two buffalos holding with a rope called ‘Hagga’. The race is basically held on the muddy track in various regions of Karnataka. Once the race starts, the fastest running pair of buffalos is announced to be the winner of the race. The farmer who owns the buffalo is awarded a prize. The thrilling spectacle is mesmerizing the audience and is enough to keep them in a flow.
Before the race, farmers or owners of the Buffaloes take proper care of them. The assets are to be taken in precious manners in order to retain and enhance sustainability during the race. Also, they ensure the proper safety of buffalos during the race.
The Kambala Festival was a royal sport in the coastal regions of Karnataka. The festival was organized to entertain the royal families in different regions in Karnataka. As per records, there were Hoysala Kings that brought up the idea to train buffalos and use them during wars. Then, it developed as a royal sport that used to be organized every year.
Hagga or Rope- The pair of buffaloes are held together with a rope that is called Hagga
Negilu-The plow is attached to the pair of buffaloes that is held by farmers to run.
Adda Halage- It is a wooden plank that is used by the farmer or runner to balance the race.
