All the travel plans start with an itch to be somewhere we have never been before. The wanderlust can only be satiated by exploring, discovering and living at the desired destination for a short while, if not possibly a long stay. There’s always a new place to discover, new people to meet and new stories to share.
If the travel bug is constantly buzzing in your ears, now is the time to take some travel inspiration from the super stylish diva, Isha Koppikar. Our flapping travel buggy landed on her window to hear her travel stories from India. So here’s to all her fans, an exclusive interview with Adotrip.
: What is travelling to you?
I am very passionate about travelling. If I had my way, I would love to travel for the rest of my life. I will not have one abode, in fact, I would have houses at every corner of the world. Travelling from one place to another with a purpose or experience makes it even more meaningful and this indeed is the essence of travelling.
All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveller is unaware.
: What does India mean to you and why people must travel to our country?
We have undervalued our own culture so much. For instance, yoga, we have International Yoga Day wherein people from across the world value the art form that originated in India. Whenever I travel abroad, I realize that there is already so much in our own country but we don’t know how to market our diversity which is exceptional and undeniably most unique. Apart from learning ethos and striking diversity, travellers get an opportunity to explore the altering experience of yoga and Ayurveda in India.
:What keeps you connected to the roots?
Grandparents play a major role in keeping a person connected to their roots. My grandmother gave me wings and also kept me connected to my roots. We deeply imbibed from them that we are not Hindus but Bhartiya. My grandfather used to write it even on the forms, he used to tell me that nation is before religion. I would like my daughter to learn these values and grow up as a Bhartiya.
Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity.
: You are an influential model and actor. Which is your favorite Indian sartorial preference?
A woman looks best in a saree. It is the most mysterious attire. It justifies and accentuates the curves so elegantly. I feel a saree instantly glamorizes a woman without doing much. You can never go wrong with it. I love different drapes, the most dignified outfit for any woman.
Six yards of pure grace! Saree never tells you to fit in, it makes you stand out.
: Which place in India you can go back to without thinking twice and why?
Goa because my parents went there for a honeymoon, kidding ya! My daughter loves Goa for innumerable reasons. It is the place in India where you can crash without any agenda and it will still give you joyous moments.
: In your pictures, we have seen you practicing yoga. Which is your favorite yoga destination in India?
I have been practicing yoga for almost 18 years now. It made me more balanced emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. Yoga taught me the difference between sympathy and empathy as once I was a big-time empath. I have been to Kerala; Munnar and Calicut for Ayurveda and detox. Once every year, I travel only to detox. Ananda in Rishikesh is brimming on my bucket list. I have heard so much about this luxury yoga retreat. I am looking forward to being there.
: Which destinations in India you want to show to your daughter and why?
I really wish to take my daughter to the paradise on earth, Kashmir. I have some fond childhood memories when travelling to Kashmir was easy. I want to show her mesmerizing Tulip gardens in Yousmarg, stunning vistas of Sonmarg and Gulmarg. I want her to experience a whimsical shikara ride in Dal Lake. The panoramic and captivating beauty of Kashmir is a sight to behold. I also want to take her to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers.
: Any unique event or festival in India that you have heard of or been a part of?
I make sure to celebrate all the festivals with my daughter. I want her to understand the vibrancy of Indian culture through the spectrum of festivity. I really love the charm of Lohri. Bonfire, folk songs, hearty get-togethers are so pleasing. Also, I have a couple of Punjabi friends, it gives us all an opportunity to catch up and indulge in some merry-making.
: Which destination in India is best for photoshoots?
Leh Ladakh is one of the finest places in India for photoshoots. The natural beauty of Pangong Tso and Nubra Valley are like stunning paintings drawn on huge canvases. It boasts majestic landscapes that get real out of a dream. Crystal blue skies, most enchanting sunsets, shimmering water and extremely picturesque vistas in the backdrop, what else one wants for a photoshoot?
: Which is the most romantic travel destination in India according to you?
Northeast India. The Seven Sisters’ states are truly amazing and also less explored. For romance, it’s important to be at places that are quaint and calming. Sikkim, Darjeeling, Cherrapunji are mesmerizing spots. I also love hill stations of the North; Nainital and Mussoorie. We also have a house in Mussoorie.
