History of Gwaldam
Since the very beginning, Gwaldam has some prominent chunks of history attached to it. The mention of this destination is incomplete without talking about the Gwaldam Battle that held between the Garwhal Army and the Chand Dynasty of Kumaon.
Historians claim that this battle was fought in 1590 A.D. Furthermore, the place saw the rule of several provinces like the Garhwal Kingdom which was then followed by the Chands, Gorkhas and then finally the Britishers before our country got independent in 1947.
At present, this adorable town of the Chamoli district is part of the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Major Attractions in and Around Gwaldam
Situated at an approximate distance of 20 km from Kausani, this place is adorned with many small and huge temples. These temples carry great historic and religious significance. It is believed that the Baijnath temple was constructed in the 12th century. As the legend goes, Lord Shiva had married Sati at this very place; the confluence of River Garur Ganga and River Gomti.
2. Kausani Tea Estate
As the name suggests, this place is just perfect for getting your hands on some tasteful organic tea, and also it is no less than a paradise for nature lovers. Situated at 5 km (approx) from the town, the estate is spread in an area of about 208 hectares. Apart from that, this is truly an amazing location where you can stroll much to your heart’s content. The only thing to consider is that you must not visit this place in the months from November to March, as during this time, the premises remains closed.
3. Shopping in Kausani
Kausani is a small hill station but still, you can shop a variety of items from the local market. The speciality of this place is a range of hand-made items that you can take as souvenirs for your loved ones. You can also consider taking tea from the Tea estate.

The nearest airport is the Pantnagar Airport situated at an approximate distance of about 200-250 km. It is best to take connecting flights from Delhi and Chandigarh to reach here. After you get off the airport, take a cab or a bus to reach Gwaldam.

The nearest railway station is the Kathgodam Railway Station. It has overall good connectivity with other Indian cities. Once you deboard at the station, you will need to take some means of public transportation to reach your destination.
By Road
