I hadn’t been back to India in five years. Life in Canada had swept me up - work, responsibilities, deadlines. But through it all, my thoughts often drifted back to my childhood spent with my grandparents in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. Their love was the kind you never forget - unconditional, warm, and ever-present even across oceans.
So, when I finally managed to plan a trip to India, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. It was time to fulfil a promise I had made long ago, a religious tour to Ujjain, something my grandparents had always dreamed of but never thought possible at their age.
My grandfather, now in his 80s, struggles with arthritis. He can barely walk and my grandmother has early-stage Parkinson’s which affects her mobility as well. I wanted this trip to be perfect for them, but the reality of their health conditions weighed on me. From flights to accommodations to ensuring their comfort throughout the journey, it seemed overwhelming.
That’s when I found Adotrip.
They arranged everything, from wheelchair assistance at the airport to selecting a hotel in Ujjain that was fully equipped for the elderly. They even had medical support on standby, something I hadn’t even thought to ask for. I wasn’t running around making arrangements; I was enjoying every moment with my grandparents.
When we arrived in Ujjain, everything had already been taken care of. The car waiting for us had a ramp for my grandfather, so he didn’t have to struggle. We were assigned a guide who ensured my grandparents had plenty of time at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. Nothing felt rushed; it was all at our pace, just the way my grandparents needed it to be.
There was a moment during the temple aarti when I glanced over at my grandparents and saw their eyes filled with tears. They weren’t just experiencing the spirituality of the place, they were living a dream they had long thought impossible. My grandmother squeezed my hand and said, “We never thought we would be here, beta, thank you.”
That’s when it hit me. This wasn’t just a trip; it was a memory we were creating together. We celebrated Grandparents’ Day that year in a way I never imagined - sharing stories, laughing, and feeling grateful for the journey we’d just been on.
It wasn’t about gifts or grand gestures. It was about the simple joy of making a long-cherished dream come true. And I couldn’t have done it without Adotrip.
To anyone reading this, especially those of us who get caught up in our busy lives, here’s what I’ve learned, our grandparents have dreams too. They’ve spent their whole lives taking care of us, sometimes at the cost of their aspirations.
My message to all grandchildren out there - don’t wait. Your grandparents’ dreams are still alive, even if they haven’t told you. With Adotrip, you can make those dreams come true in ways you never thought possible.
Thank you Adotrip team for making me realise that nothing is truly far with your support!
