1.  The website, Money-co.uk evaluated the most premium cities worldwide, including designer shops, restaurants, hotels, boutique and designer shops, etc., to prepare the list of the top 20 opulent cities on the globe. The basis for ranking the cities was based on several metrics called luxury venue per square miles, number of luxury venues, and more. Paris, the French capital, also called the City of Lights, ranked at number one as it is home to about 427 Michelin-rated restaurants, 95 five-star rated hotels, 108 designer stores, and more. Phuket in Thailand came at number two with 48 Michelin-rated restaurants. Brussels in Belgium and Geneva in Switzerland ranked at number three and number four. At number five is Cannes, the iconic city in France known for the famous Hollywood film festival. 

2. In a restrictive move, Australia has decided to continue with the block on international tourism till 2022. PM Scott Morrisson mentioned the same in an interview with the Associated Press.  The country has been one of the foremost countries that have completely halted foreigners from entering the country since March 2020.  

However, the country is all ready to open borders for permanent residents and indigenous citizens. After this, the country might relax the rules for skilled migrants and foreign students.

3. A new global distribution agreement has been signed between Sabre Corporation and Emirates. While the latter is a prominent international airline, the former is a premier software company operating in the travel industry. As a result of the Agreement, travel agencies and buyers connected with Sabre can now use Saber's GDS (Global Distribution System). As per Roshan Mendis, the Executive Commercial Officer of Sabre Travel Solutions, the Agreement would be a sustainable distribution model where travel buyers and Emirates will gain meaningfully with the removal of complexities in the travel buying process. 

4. The International Air Transport Association (IATA)has recently announced the IATA Diversity & Inclusion winners. This is the 2nd edition of the awards and is sponsored by Qatar Airways. Each winner will receive a sum o $25,000.

The winners are:

  1. Mr. Harpreet A. Singh, the Executive Director of Air India, is the winner o the Inspirational Role Model award.

  2. Mr. Lalitya Dhavala from McLarens Aviation and working as an Aviation Engineering Consultant has been named for the High Flyer Award.

  3. The Diversity & Inclusion Team of the year has gone to All Nippon Airways. 

5. The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, one of India's most renowned and frequented religious places, has reopened its doors starting October 7th, 2021. The temple was shut due to Covid-19 for many months now. Now that things are better and Navratri is around the corner, the government has reopened the Temple doors. However, as per the new rules, only 15,000 devotees can visit the temple complex every day. Also, only online passes will be valid for gaining access to the temple.

6. The Indian Railways has announced a new train connecting Udaipur and Katra. It will be run for a limited duration during the Navratris. It is the Delhi-Katra train that has been extended till Udaipur. The train (No. 04033) will leave Udaipur City at 0640 hours daily to reach Old Delhi Railway Station at 2005 hours the same day and Katra at 0920 hours the next day.

7. The New7Wonders Foundation has announced the new wonders of the world based on an extensive study conducted by ETIAS.com. The organization studied the global travel trends to the existing Wonders of the World during the pandemic, including the old and new list, and conducted a global poll to prepare the list. The top 3 wonders of the world voted unanimously were – the Taj Mahal of India, the Colosseum in Italy, and the Great Wall of China. The other four wonders listed are the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, Chichen Itza in Mexico, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Machu Picchu in Peru, and Petra in Jordan.

8. Indians planning to travel to Germany can now go ahead as all travel restrictions have been lifted for all Indian travelers. Travelers need to prove being fully vaccinated or their complete recovery from Covid or carry a negative test report to travel to Germany. 

9. Starting October 16th till October 29th, 2021, the Pune International Airport will remain closed. All pre-booked flights have been suspended. As per the official handle of the Pune Airport Authority, the closure will be because the Indian Air Force will be doing the runway resurfacing work during this period.

10. As per reports, the new luxury train reported to start sometime early next month will run from India's capital city, New Delhi, to the Northeast. The five states that will be covered include Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. The itinerary will cover a cruise on the Brahmaputra River and a close encounter with flora and fauna at the Kaziranga National Park in Guwahati and Jorhat. It will further cover Agartala, Unakoti, and Udaipur in Tripura and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. In Meghalaya, it will be a stopover at Shillong and Cherrapunji, and Kohima in Nagaland.

The IRCTC Train will have air-conditioned coaches for tourists with the choice of First Class and Second Class. 

11. The government has finally decided to start issuing tourist visas. The decision has been announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in consultation with other related ministries like the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Ministry of Civil Aviation. The MHA has also spoken to state governments before taking the decision. The decision to ease travel restrictions to India comes after almost one and a half years. The decision is expected to boost the tourism and related sectors in the country that have been badly affected due to the Covid-19 restrictions. 

While tourist visas for those booked on chartered flights will be allowed from October 15th, those keen to fly on commercial flights will be allowed from November 15th.
