Built upon an intriguing mythological story where Brahma (the creator of the universe) sacrificed his ten horses, the Dashashwamedh Ghat is one of the most vibrant places to visit in Varanasi. Dashashwamedh Ghat Story
Two Hindu legends are associated with the Dashashwamedh Ghat. According to one such legend, Lord Brahma had created it to welcome the Mahadeva, Lord Shiva. According to another legend, Lord Brahma had sacrificed ten horses during Dasa-Ashwamedha yajna performed here.
The present ghat was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao in the year 1748. A few decades later, Ahilyabahi Holkar, the Queen of Indore rebuilt the ghat in the year 1774. Close to the ghat, overlooking the Ganga lies the Jantar Mantar, an observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur in the year 1737.

1. Sri Brihaspati Temple
The immensity of the temple is so eliciting that makes you woo while you are giving a sight view. A great piece of perfect architecture.
2. Maa Kali Temple
The ancient Maa Kali temple is located near the Dashashwamedh Ghat. If you are exploring the ghat, never miss visiting the temple.
3. Dashashwamedh Ghat Aarti
Ganga Aarti (ritual of offering prayer to the Ganges river) is held daily at dusk. Several priests perform this ritual by carrying deepam and moving it up and down in a rhythmic tune of bhajans. Special aartis are held on Tuesdays and on religious festivals. The Ganga Aarti starts soon after sunset and lasts for about 45 minutes. In summer the Aarti begins at about 7 pm due to the late sunsets and in winter it starts at around 6 pm. Hundreds of people gather at the ghat every evening to watch the event in Uttar Pradesh.
4. Boating
You can also enjoy boat riding to have a thorough view of the endless Ganga. Visitors hardly give it a miss.
How to Reach Dashashwamedh Ghat
Locals
The Varanasi city is well-connected internally to ensure better commuting to other areas. To reach Dashashwamedh Ghat, the first one needs to reach Godaulia. After getting there, a 5-10 minutes walk reacquired to reach the Dashashwamedh Ghat.
