Traditionally Dandiya Raas is a folk dance that belongs to Gujarat and is a creative mock interpretation of the war between Goddess Durga and the Demon King Mahishasura. An interesting fact about this dance form is that it was performed with real swords long back in time, but today it is performed with sticks that are a symbolic representation of swords.
Most people often use the terms Grabha and Dandiya interchangeably but the two are different dance forms of Gujarat. Garbha does not involve the use of props such as sticks or swords while dandiya is performed with dandiya (wooden sticks) or swords.
