Shaniwar Wada was built by Bajirao I in 1732 as the residence of the Peshwas. Spread in over 625 acres, it never disappoints or either fails to fascinate the tourists due to its rustic grandeur.
One of the highlights of Shaniwar Wada is the statue of Bajirao which is situated at the entrance of the palace itself.
In 1828, an unexplained fire destroyed most of the palace, however, still, the palace continues to be an amazing travel option for the tourists where they can click nice photographs, laugh, contemplate and make some lasting memories.
Interestingly, it is around Shaniwar Wada that one can find some of the oldest markets of Pune. Some of the renowned markets are situated on Laxmi Road, Tulshibaug, and Ravivar Peth.
What’s really intriguing about Shaniwar Wada is its tell tales which are ridden with treachery and deceit. Shaniwar Wada also holds many spooky stories which have been shared since historical times among the locals.
It is believed that the ghost of one of the previous kings Narayanrao haunts the place even till today. According to the story, it is believed that he was murdered by his uncle and aunt - Anandi and Raghunathrao.

History of Shaniwar Wada
The palace was built by Bajirao I in the 18th century when Bajirao served as the Peshwa or the Prime Minister of the then king, Chhatrapati Sahu.
Historically, it is known that this place was initially a seven-storey building. However, after the completion of the base floor, there were some drawbacks. People objected that the construction of stone palaces was only allowed for the kings and not by a minister or Peshwa, no matter how great a position he held. Thus, it was decided that the remaining building would be constructed in brick and usage of stone would be prohibited.
Then, about 90 years later, Shaniwar Wada was attacked by the British Artillery. Due to this attack, the entire palace became a junk of rubble. However, only the stone base remained which till today is standing tall and proud in the face of time, testifying the grandeur of those old times.

1. Osho Ashram

3. Raja Dinakar Kelkar Museum
This museum was established in 1962 by Baba Dinkar Kelkar himself commemorating the memory of his son who had passed away at an early age of seven. However, in the present times, this place is being managed by the Department of Archaeology where one can find a great collection of about 15,000 collectables. These artefacts are inclusive of the Mughal musical instruments, lamps, pottery collection and so much more.
4. Joshi’s Museum of Miniature Railway
This is probably one of the most unique places to visit in Pune. It has got many layouts of the cities which are replete with buildings and lights, roads and even train tracks. Especially the children would love to visit this place.
