History of Alwar
Alwar is one of the oldest Rajasthani Kingdoms and one of the first Rajput states to align itself with the British empire.
Since the beginning, the rulers of Alwar were associated with the Naruka clan of Rajputs. They were known as the Rao Sahebs of Macheri. What helped them forming their own palaces was the political instability caused by the invasions from the Marathas.
Historically, it is said that the first-ever chief of the Alwar city was Pratap Singh. It is believed that he had vanquished the Jats of Bharatpur in the battle of Barsana and had also helped the Marathas while at the same time annexing several villages as well as towns belonging to the state of Jaipur.
Coming on to 1947, after India’s partition, the city of Alwar was merged with the three princely states of Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Karauli. With this, the formation of the Matsya Union came into being. And soon, this union body was further merged into the Union of India.
