Keoladeo National Park came into existence with the consistent efforts of the ruler of Bharatpur, Maharaja Ramsingh. Between 1893 to 1900, the park became a reality and became a birding haven. On his visit to England, Maharaja Ram Singh ji was inspired by duck shooting spots and this resulted in creating a park on similar lines in Bharatpur. It has been divided into several blocks where water in earthen dykes has created a perfect system of freshwater marshes. The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The government banned grazing in the park and today it is a safe, green haven for the wildlife species.
