History Of Raipur
If the historical records of this place are to be believed then the city of Raipur has been in existence since the 9th century. Yes, this place was once a part of the Southern Kosal and was considered a part of the Mauryan empire. After this particular epoch, Raipur became the capital for the Haihaya kings for a considerable number of years.
Between the 2nd and 3rd century it was the Satawahanas who ruled this place. And by the 4th century, it was conquered by Samudragupta. After him, this region came under the rule of Sarabhpuri Kings and Nala Kings sometime around the 5th or 6th centuries. Later on, in history, Somavanshi kings, Tumman kings also ruled this part of the geographical land. And it is also believed that King Ramachandra from this dynasty established the city of Raipur and then subsequently made it the capital of his kingdom.
There is another interesting story about this city. According to the story, King Ramachandra’s son Brahmdeo had established Raipur. And his capital city was Khalwatika named after Brahmdeo Rai as ‘Raipur’. After the death of King Amar Singh Deo, this geographical landmass had become the domain of the Bhonsale kings of Nagpur. When Raghuji III passed away, this territory was taken by the British government from Bhonsale’s and turned into their headquarters.
After the independence of our country, this place was then included under the Central Provinces. On November 1st, 1956, Raipur became a part of Madhya Pradesh and then became a part of Chattisgarh on November 1, 2000.
